Its my life

Chapter 1
Prabhat lost his father at a very young age, he was hardly a baby when his father passed away in a horrible accident. His mother brought him and his sister up single handedly. Neither his father’s family, nor his mother’s family supported her in her fight. They both washed off their hands when they knew that his father has passed away without leaving a penny for them.

Namrata brought them up working day and night, but as if fate had more pain in store for them, she was diagnosed with cancer when Prabhat was studying in the final year of Engineering. Prabhat was shattered, he blindly clinged to his lover Sohini, but she all of a sudden changed, she started to avoid him.

One day she asked him to meet her father, he went their hoping for the best, but her father told him that a marvelous marriage proposal has come for Sohini, the groom lives in Australia, he is a software engineer there, he has his own home.

He said that Sohini wants to marry him but for that he will have to do one thing, he will pay for the passage money, they will have to move abroad, because Sohini always wanted to settle outside India. Prabhat looked at Sohini but she was firmly looking at the ground.

He got up and left, telling her father that he will answer later. He has hardly reached the gate, he saw Sohini standing outside the gate, a deep peace settled in his heart.

Sohini started to walk with him toward his home, after a few minutes of silent walking she requested him to think over his father’s offer. After noting the look of shock on his face she continued in a begging tone, that, she cant bear the thought of living a life with a person counting her last breath. Tears welled up in the eyes of both and Prabhat just blindly walked inside his home, without even looking back at her.

One month later he came to know that she has got married and will shift to Australia within a few months. He started to drink. As if that was the only solution. One day, while he was dead drunk he collided with a car and passed out.

When he came to his senses he was in hospital, his body aching from head to toe. He was blankly staring at the ceiling, he turned his stinging eyes at the sound of a rustle, and saw the sister moving towards him. She gently sat down beside him and took his wrist for pulse.

She softly said that he tried his level best to kill himself, then she softly reprimanded him for being so reckless, she added the harsh truth, that he might have got himself crippled. She reminded him about his sister and sick mother, who had fallen asleep after crying for hours. He has been unconscious for three days.

Prabhat looked at her through the haze of pain and saw a very kind face, hardly his age or a little younger. She injected him and he gently drifted back to the warm cocoon of sleep and forgetfulness.

The next one month that he spent in the hospital Angel made it a point to visit him whenever she could, slowly she taught him how to look at the positive side of life, even after being heart broken, how to let the love which has lost drift away and cherish those which he still possesses. She gently brought his attention to his mother and sister, who doted after him, and were shattered by his accident.

He hated himself for causing them so much pain and swore inside that he will never do any thing which will cause them pain.

After his discharge from the hospital he asked Angel if she can shift to their home with her mother, and live with them, because he is very scared about her health, he requested her to take over half of their ground floor, without rent, so that none feel bad for that. Angel agreed, because Prabhat’s home was very near to her hospital. And she somehow got fond of the family.

To Prabhat’s gentle surprise soon they started to live like a family, his sister became Angel’s shadow, all the affection from which she has been deprived showered down on her from Angel and her mother.

To Prabhat’s great dismay he came to know that Angel is ten years older than he is, but deep in his heart he found himself drawn toward this lady, a very ordinary looking, very honest but kind hearted person. He kept on fighting with himself yet his heart kept on betraying him. He tried to get suggestion of some of his close friends but they bluntly asked him to get his thoughts together and think about some one who is of his own age.

To increase his misery, some one spread that story, and wherever he went he started to receive sniggers and hidden taunts. People who had been put down by him named his simultaneous actions as his road to destruction. He even heard remarks which meant that Sohini must have noticed his weak personality, that is why she moved out on him. He heard every comment silently and slowly distanced himself from them. This incident taught him to observe human nature.
Prabhat got his first job offer soon after completing his studies and joined, Preeti was still finishing her medical studies. Namrata’s health was failing very rapidly but to their shock, one morning he received a call from Preeti informing him that Angel’s mother has passed away in her sleep the previous night. He rushed back home, some thing broke inside him when he saw Angel shattered to pieces. Even though she was trying her best to control herself but her grief was too obvious from her very existence. Namrata was hugging her tightly to herself and did not left her alone for next few months even for a few hours at a stretch. Prabhat’s respect for her grew when he realized that she was able to cope to her losses a lot more firmly than him.

The judge

Amit has it all planned, his only sister married a rogue, who ruined her, after seeing her plight and pain he decided to settle his score with him. So he started to pile up money in dishonest way, but after amassing a lot of money he realized that his brother in law was still out of his reach. So he decided to settle his score with the rest of his family. He started to think about all possible ways and prowl around his home.

He could not locate his brother in law or his family but he located his ancestral home, and his uncle’s family, to his great pleasure he found out that his brother in law had a cousin sister, with his deviated mind he thought that he will settle his score with her and avenge his sister’s destruction.

He confided in Sanjay his friend, who loved his sister with all her heart but could not marry her because his family did not consented to their marriage. Together they weaved a plan, first befriended one of her friends and Sanjay started to visit her as a friend’s friend. To fool the idealist girl he used to call her sister while she was present and once out of the house he used to pretend as if they were having an affair.

That acted as a catastrophe to the girl’s image because she was too idealist, she was one of those women who believed in having only one mate, and had turned down too many romantic approaches just because of that. Hence, the people she has turned down in the past had a chance to settle their scores against her.

Sanjay started to act like a Trojan horse, during his frequent visit to the house mostly in absence of the girl he pried out all the secrets he could and used them. Just like every family that family too had some small and big secrets which if used effectively could have ruined them, and he did exactly that. As every one thought that he was that girl’s friend every one started to despise her. Whereas she never knew that she was being used as a pawn. Slowly her relationship became so bad with her house she left the home and settled elsewhere.

But as sometimes God plays strange games she was maneuvered to a place where Amit had an extremely strong hold, so he started to settle his score with great gusto. He used to place some of his gang members to wherever she used to frequent, it worked both ways, harassing her and obtaining links for his next operation. Even though he could not corrupt her after trying for years, but he thought that he has avenged his sister, the entire family of his brother in law’s uncle was ruined, because he believed that the friend of an enemy is an enemy.

Then fate took a strange turn, one after one member of the two families started to perish, he and Sanjay both have married by then, no matter how they tried but their wife never conceived. They both were only sons of their family.

It seemed as if wherever they or their families went bad luck was sure to follow, flood, accident, earthquakes…. They could realize two things, first that it was not done by man. And second, if you harm a person who has not harmed you, they may not be able to harm you back, but there is someone else who keeps the score, and with time settles it.

beauty and age

A hushed silence fell on the group of gossipers when they observed Megha and Rajesh passing by. Megha was beauty and youth impersonified and Rajesh equally charming.

Mrs. Sinha could not resist herself and blurted out the moment they turned the curve and were out of sight, “How could Mr. Rastogi imagine that he will be able to keep her in his life, at his age!!”

Mrs. Mehta echoed her thoughts, “It was meant to be, poor Mr. Rastogi, he should now let bygone be bygone and marry some one who is closer to his age and spend his remaining days in peace and security.”

The trio who were the center of their attention, were Megha a young lady in her early thirties, her husband Rajesh and her ex husband Mr. Rastogi, one of the rich industrialists of the town. He fell for a rich girl when he was young, her father rejected him because of his poverty, he became obsessed with earning money so much that he forgot time. By the time he was rich his ex flame was well settled with children and his hairs have become patches of white and gray.

Then Megha walked into his life, an orphan, he took an instant fancy on her because she had stunning similarity with his ex flame. He started to woo her with all his energy and charms which money could buy. Megha being love hungry fell for his charms and they got married within an year of meeting each other.

Then the brief honeymoon was over, every day brought more and more disappointment to their life. Megha was looking for thrill and Mr. Rastogi was looking for peace. He sometimes found it extremely annoying to cope with her childish, immatured nature and she used to break down in sobs when he snapped at these things. Within an year they realized another thing, that Mr. Rastogi was incapable of giving Megha the greatest gift of all, motherhood.

Slowly the small gap became an abyss and they started to live like strangers in the same home, both were strongly principled hence they were loyal to each other but that became the heaviest chain around their neck.

Megha started to suffer from bouts of depression, and started to consult Rajesh, every thing changed and she fell for him head over heel. She could not bring herself to say this to Mr. Rastogi, but he understood every thing.

They divorced each other and Mr. Rastogi gave away her hand to Rajesh.

our God

Ratna has just entered the car waiting for her in the Railway Station when she heard a feeble whimper under the seat. She almost screamed, and then looked under it and saw a young woman clutching a baby to her bosom cowering under the seat.

Before she could open her mouth the girl begged in a piteous voice, “maijee don’t hand me over to them, they will kill both of us.”

Ratna gently turned in the key to ignition, and was about to start the car when a group of her husband’s friends gathered the car, after seeing her in the driving seat one of them asked her to get home immediately because there might be some trouble in the village.

Then he asked her if she has seen a young woman with a child nearby, Ratna denied and drove away.

Ratna parked the car in the garage, opened the back door of the car and asked the cowering girl to come out, the girl straight headed for her feet but Ratna prevented her from grasping it, and tenderly asked her to follow her.

Heerabai’s eyebrows shot upwards the moment she saw the girl behind Ratna, she snapped out in anger, “So, here you are, after setting the entire peaceful village in fire!! What got inside you? You impudent girl! How could you dare to enter the temple?”

She continued her furious lecture, “What if they have caught you and the innocent baby? They would have killed you both then and there! What about maijee? Do you think they would have spared her if she was caught saving you?”

Ratna got half of the story from the furious lecture which Heerabai was dishing out to the shaking girl, and the remaining she got out from both the ladies after the girl, Meera was fed and her baby put to bed after being fed.

Meera was one of the so called dalits, her husband lived outside the state, she lived here with her inlaws, her only son, the baby, was suffering from fever, the local hakim was not able to cure her. One of her friends suggested her to take the baby to the local Shiva temple and ask the priest to bless him.

She went to the temple late at night, but the priest was not there, one look at the serene temple and she was not able to resist herself and after casting her glance around the temple she tiptoed inside.

She headed straight for the shivlinga and picked up a few flowers dedicated to Him, and was thinking that she will be able to make it safe outside without being noticed, when, to her sheer bad luck, some of the village youth thought about visiting the temple after a visit to local hooch shop.

Their faces turned red when they recognized her, and one of them lunged after her, after that all she remembered was blindly running here and there for her life. And finally she ended up in Ratna’s car.

Ratna retired to her room thinking what to do next, her husband Vinay was out in the town, she knew very well Heerabai wont tell anyone, but it was impossible to hide a child, that too a small baby.

She came down again, softly woke up Meera and asked her to take the baby along with her, she drove them off to town again and left them at her father’s place.

The next morning she sent some money secretly to Meera’s inlaws and asked them to meet her in her father’s place. They went there and did not came back.

A few months later when she visited her father’s place again his father told her that he has found a job for Meera’s father in law, they have settled there, they were very afraid to go back to village because they were threatened with dire consequences if they don’t leave the village immediately.

Imitation

Mrs. Gupta stifled her laughter applying her full strength when Lucy passed by them, she took enough care to stop for a while and chat with them in halting English, in the meanwhile showing them her new pair of jeans and costly top, which looked horrible on her. She told her goodbye but not without forgetting to let them know that it has been imported from Singapore.

The moment she disappeared from the vision of their view the w3 that is wicked3 smirked at each other.

Mrs. Ghosh calmly commented, “She was quite alright when she was herself, not trying to become Trina.”

Mrs. Dutta added, “Why does not this poor girl understands, or some one does not tells her that she cant become Trina, they belong to two different spheres.”

Lucy aka Lekha, as she was known before her marriage to Prabir was the center of their joke. Prabir was in love with Trina but they could not marry because his family did not approved Trina, and Prabir knew his family will make her life nightmare if he marries her against their will so he watched her walk away forever.

When his family chose Lekha as his bride he just simply married her and after that started to live as a bachelor again. He pretended as if he was not married at all.

His mother started to blame Lekha that she does not have the power to win over her husband’s love. Due to her constant goading Lekha’s life became miserable and she started to hate Trina with all her heart.

She belonged to a family which was more interested in teaching girls how to become good home maker, hence she never even touched a news paper or read a book outside her curriculum.

Whereas Trina belonged to a family with deep root in cultural activity, hence her world was surrounded by book, music and art. As a result she had a bending toward the spiritual self. She lived in this world but some how was not touched by the evil of this world, every one who came near her could feel that strange aura.

Getting tired of her husband’s coldness and mother in law’s hostility Lekha started to spy on Trina, who unfortunately lived just near her, she befriended her using her naïve nature and started to copy every thing she did. Her way of talking, her appearance, her hobbies blindly. She became so obsessed with copying her that she crossed every limit, she used to befriend her friends behind her back and talk ill of her, blaming her falsely that she is still not over with her husband and that is the reason her husband ignores her.

But as it happens in small communities her games were caught within a short span of time and she ended up feeling like a fool. Prabir distanced himself even more when he came to know the things she has been doing

Our deed

It was early summer morning, the air was laden with fragrance of flowers and birds were chirping in trees. The infamous trio was sitting side by side, in the park bench when the silence of the park was shattered by sharp voices. The three pairs of eyes met and then a universal expression of boredom crept on their faces. Their eyes said, “Here it goes again!”

Mrs. Singha broke the silence, “I should say its poetic justice!”

Mrs Mehta agreed with her aptly and added, “This is what happens to people who think money is every thing in this world.”

Mrs Jain softly added, “Bina was such a sweet girl, but they made her life miserable, they ruined it just because Jayant married her out of his own choice and without dowry. They did not had the capacity of controlling their own son, so they ruined an innocent girl’s life.”

“Her family may be poor, but its one of the most reputed families in the city, the girl was highly educated, sweet looking, and Jayant and Bina loved each other so much, before they started to poison his mind.”

Mrs. Mehta quipped, “You cant call Jayant that innocent, he never had half the personality which Bina had, he was my son’s close friend, and all he could do was whine and complain against all the miseries he had to face in life. He never made a single attempt to stand up and change things, or else his family would have been intact.”

Today’s menu of their spicy discussion was a family which resided in the same housing estate, the elder-most son of the family has married a girl from different community without a single penny of dowry. They met in college and fell in love instantly, and after both of them settled in their respective careers they decided to get married.

There was a big furor in Jayant’s home when he asked for his parent’s permission. After an open war of almost an year Bina and Jayant married without his parent’s consent. They initially took up a rented home but Jayant’s mother insisted her husband to bring them home. Bina was a little apprehensive because his parents did not allowed him to enter their home when the newly wed has gone for their blessings. Jayant begged her to give his parents a chance to rectify themselves.

Bina was received at her in-law’s home with open disrespect, his parents clearly told them that they don’t mingle with people of lower standard, as Bina was their daughter in law she was the part of their family but her family and friends were barred from visit. But it was clear to even outsiders that Bina was treated with the same respect which was dished out to household helps.

Bina worked in a good post so dowry torture or any other type of torture could not take place, but the psychological torture was enough to devastate her. All Jayant did was to beg her to adjust with them, she tried out of love and because of her family upbringing. Then slowly her self respect started to surface. She was born in a family where everyone including the household helps were treated with respect, whereas her in laws treated her like a dirt, they used to flinch away from her presence or insult her at the minimum pretext.

Slowly she started to distance herself from them, finally one day the showdown came and she asked Jayant to take his side, he whimpered that he cant walk away from his parents, so she did and never looked back.

The divorce was quick, Bina refused any alimony. Within one year Jayant remarried, this time his parents made the choice a girl from extremely rich family. And then God started to show that She maintains the records meticulously. Their new daughter in law was from a very influential family and had a fiery temper.

true love

Chitra joined her new office with fear and tension. Her last experience was shattering. She joined a big company with a high hope and appointment letter for a lucrative post.

The next three months she spent there was perfect nightmare, at the end of that she realized two things, first, she does not have the aggressive mindset to make it big, and second she has been taken on a ride, her employers promised her garden of eden but forgot to tell her that they will assess her worthiness but she will have to pay the cost. They forced her to resign and as per the rulebook usurped her salary.

Chitra was almost shattered, the continuous misbehavior of her employees and cold and professional attitude laced with hostility from her colleagues made her apprehensive toward work culture, or office politics.
She tried to get over the pain of losing her dream job and move ahead, the next job she joined was in a very small organization.

Her boss was dream come true. His very behaviour was dreamlike, he never showed her minimum disrespect during her stay with him. But it earned the jealousy of some of his staffs and they started to bother her so much that she changed the job.

She called him up on new year to wish him but some one else picked up the phone and told her that he is hospitalized. She felt as if a thunder has stricken her out of the blue. For the first time she realized that the feeling she thought respect was actually love.

She visited him the very next day and after visiting him she went to his office, and observed every thing in mess. She offered her help and went there every day after her office to help.

A month passed by and both of the crisis were over, then one day one of his very close friends called her up and asked her how much will she charge for the works she has done. She told her that she cant even imagine charging some thing. But the lady on the other side kept insisting, finally chitra told her that she will talk with him personally. She never called him up after that and he never contacted her after returning from nursing home.

That day she realized a harsh truth, one should always keep in mind financial status if one is of marrying mindset. Otherwise that will cause only pain and humiliation.

spurned

It was one of those mornings after a good rain when every thing looks pure and cool. The sun was shining bright, small clouds were sailing like white boats in the clear blue sky. A gentle breeze was blowing. Birds were busy chattering after being disturbed through the night.

Mrs Ghosh was sitting in the bench waiting for her friends to join her when Dipti walked by, she smiled at her, and Mrs. Ghosh smiled back. Soon she noted Prabhat coming her way, she smiled within this time, taking enough care that it does not breaks on her lips. Every one in the housing estate knew Prabhat and Dipti were deeply in love with each other and were to be married soon.

Mrs Ghosh was surprised when Prabhat asked her if he can sit down beside her for a while. He sat down and by the very look of his face she could tell some thing was really wrong.

Prabhat himself spilled out the reason after a brief hesitation. He told her that his brother is dead against his marriage to Dipti. He is taking every measure to cancel the marriage. He is falsely alleging Dipti for the things which she has never done or never will. He insults her, her friends, her relations and later complains they have misbehaved with him in the first hand.

He is hell bent to ruin her image in front of every one. As a result Dipti has started to avoid him too, because he has failed to take her side. How can he insult or challenge his own elder brother, a brother who has loved him so much, and taken care of him for so long after their father died.

There was an awkward silence after which Mrs. Ghosh explained him the reasons of his problem. Prabhat’s elder brother Rajesh has taken care of his brother and sister since their father passed away at a young age. He did not married because of this.

When Dipti and her family shifted to the housing estate he instantly fell for her, he tried to win her heart for years but could not. The more she tried to distance herself from him, the more his obsession for her grew. Slowly love transformed into hatred, and he started to hate her with all his heart.

When Prabhat fell for her and she reciprocated his love Rajesh was infuriated. He made up his mind that he wont allow her in his household and started to act like that.

After explaining the reasons Mrs. Ghosh told Prabhat it will be next to impossible to change Rajesh. Dipti’s entry in his home will never be welcome. So Prabhat will have to chose the side, either he can procure a job in a distant place and live there with Dipti or let her walk away. If they stay in the same city as husband and wife, most of the people will call them, especially him selfish for walking away from a brother who has done the duties of a father.

Ideal match

The threesome were sitting side by side chatting with each other in an idle manner when a newly wed couple walked by the wife smiled at them sweetly and they smiled back coldly.

When they were out of their earshot Mrs. Ghosh said in a hushed tone, “This is what I should call the perfect match.” and smirked.

Mrs. Sinha giggled and asked her to keep her voice low and added, “If she hears your comment, your day is ruined!”

Mrs. Dutt added, “This is why they say that you can bring a horse to water, but you cant make him drink it.”

“Suresh’s parents tried their level best to get him married to Prema, but he picked up his ideal match. Now lets see how long it takes him to understand that every thing that glitters is not gold.”

Suresh’s parents were not in favour of his marrying his wife Jayita, she was a very sharp tongued and untrustworthy woman. She was easy with her body and tongue. She used to mix with men as if she was one of them and cracked nastiest jokes, relished vulgarest discussions to her heart’s fill. She used to pry out the animal side of every man who came in touch with her. But she had lots of style, oomph factor and a sweet (occasionally fiery) tongue.

When Suresh’s parents observed that he is obsessed with Jayita they tried their level best to make him marry Prema. They tried their level best without crossing their limits. They knew that they don’t have any right to force their decision on Suresh so they introduced him to Prema, and requested her to befriend him. She did. But Suresh rejected her like a drunkard rejects a glass of water.

When Prema observed that he was obsessed with Jayita, and the type of woman Jayita was she gently explained the harsh truth to Suresh’s parents that a person who likes a woman like Jayita, can never like a girl like Prema. So they should better brace themselves, and be prepared that she is the one who will be their daughter in law, if she doesnot rejects Suresh. Because even though she moves around with Suresh she calls him filthiest names and makes fun of him when she is among her friends.

Suresh’s parents could not say a single word to her, because they knew she was speaking the truth, but made preparations of shifting to their second house after son’s marriage.

unspoken words

Prarthana was a very ordinary but sweet natured girl, she deeply loved Namit. Namit was on the other hand good looking, smart, extremely charming and sophisticated. All his friends competed for his attention and Prathana was the mute spectator

Prarthana was of an extremely shy nature, one of those girls who could not speak properly to men, forget about proposing. Whenever Namit used to come near her she used to become dumb, so, as was supposed to happen Namit fell in love with the sweetest girl of the group, Chaitali.

Prarthana left the town to pursue higher studies and settled there, from there she came to know that Namit and Chaitali has married, after that she lost interest to keep in touch with them, but it took her years to forget Namit and move over, in her work place she found a friend, a philosopher ,a guide, Ronit.

Ronit was good looking in his own ways, he may be unattractive to majority of the person but his intelligent and kind nature reflected on his face, which made him even more beautiful. He helped Prarthana forget her first hurt and made her smile again. But deep within Prarthana was still in love with Ronit. Just like an sickly child her heart would not let him go. No matter how much she convinced her.

One day she was returning home from office all of a sudden some one called her out, she looked back and saw Namit standing, her heart missed a beat, she stopped and smiled, Namit came towards her with his easy grace and she was bowled over again.

When Namit came near then only she noticed that he was holding the hand of a small child, Namit introduced her as her daughter Sonali, she was shocked to know that Chaitali has passed away when Sonali was only a few months old, Namit and his parents are bringing up the child.

She went back home, her heart sad and happy at the same time, her heart was sad for untimely death of Chaitali and beaming with the hope of winning her long lost love.

When she met Ronit she could not hide her excitement and told him all about it, she thought she saw a deep pain in his eyes but kept on bubbling with joy. After that Ronit slowly distanced himself from her and she started to mix with Namit and Sonali.

Ronit used to come to meet her often but their friendship was slowly dying due to Prarthana’s lack of interest, she was fully obsessed with Sonali and Namit.

They also used to look forward for her visit, especially Sonali became her shadow, Namit was extremely relieved to see them together, he could easily leave Sonali with Prarthana on the days when his parents were not around, because he knew Prarthana would love that.

One day Prarthana came back with a burning fever, the doctor diagnosed her and told her that it’s a case of acute measles. She was lying alone in bed when the doorbell rang, she opened the door and Namit and Sonali were standing there, Namit asked her if he could leave Sonali for a few days with her because his grand mother is ill and all three of them will have to leave for a couple of days to bring her here, and if Prarthana will keep Sonali her school wont be missed.

Prarthana sadly told him the doctor’s diagnosis, Namit left with Sonali, advicing her to take care of herself and promised he will be back after his return. Prarthana went back to her bed tired and sleepy.

She was about to sleep when the door bell rang again, she went to the door hoping that Namit must have cancelled his visit, but when she opened the door she saw Ronit standing there with his mother. His mother told her that they met Namit in the station and he told them about her condition. After listening to it Ronit goaded his mother to nurse her. Her mother went to the kitchen to prepare some soup for her and Ronit sat down beside her bed talking to her gently.

The witness

When Jayati accepted that job in that small hill station she never imagined that she was inviting her own doom. She joined the school as a computer operator cum clerk and was offered a room in the teacher’s hostel.

She fell in love with the school at the very first week, it was for students upto class 12th. She was an average small town girl, bubbly, happy and eager to mix with all. Almost all of her colleagues were married. A few of them were local, but the teacher’s hostel was also full.

She observed within a few weeks that the attrition rate of the school was too high, some of the teachers lasted only two or three months. There were a few teachers who have been working for more than ten years or so but the remaining just came and went. Some left due to justified reason like marriage some without explanation.

She observed with dismay that no matter how much she tried to mix with the teachers they always maintained a cold distance, especially the senior ones, they had only one alibi that the managing committee does not likes their inter-mixing. Strange thing was they used to act the same way in the hostel too, here their alibi was whatever happens in hostel is reported to the managing committee. And strange enough Jayati too started to develop the hunch that whatever happens is word to word relayed to the managing committee. Hence she too developed the habit of keeping silent.

A couple of months have hardly passed when Jayati observed that the moment she used to walk out of hostel to go to school or vice versa a car used to stalk her. She ignored it initially but later she informed her colleagues, who said it must be some one who has fallen in love with her. Jayati outwardly laughed away the matter but became tensed inside because she knew that she was too ordinary looking to be stalked like that.

She had a very close friend there, actually the only friend, Lata, she was a local resident, Jayati often used to go to her home and talk with her. Lata used to sometimes say things which Jayati used to find pretty odd, she often used to talk about women who has in harsh word become mistresses of rich old people and are happy or similar things. She sometimes used to ask Jayati’s opinion on such things, who used to express her point of view. One day the discussion went to call girls and prostitutes and being brought up in a typical old-fashioned environment Jayati uttered some derogatory words about them.

She felt it offended Lata. After a few minutes Lata asked what would have she done if she was forced into such a net and Jayati told the truth she would have killed herself or killed the person who would have trapped her into that even after thousand years. And she meant it.

It seemed some thing went awry from that very day, the moment she used to walk out of her hostel or school a group of extremely dirty people started to stalk her, their behaviour, the language they used towards her scared the living daylight out of her. She has never seen such filthy human beings. She made up her mind about escaping from there, because she became suspicious that there is some thing going on behind the façade of school. Hence she made an excuse of attending a marriage and escaped from there. She went back to her town and told them that she cant come back due to medical reasons, and requested them to accept her resignation.

A few years passed and Jayati became very certain that there was some thing wrong with that school after all, because she was constantly stalked by a group of strangers wherever she went. It appeared as if they used to get some information about her whereabouts the moment she used to walk out of the home. No matter where she joined the jobs used to terminate within a few weeks, or at the maximum few months mostly without salary. As if some strong and powerful group was determined to crush her.

They scandalized her that she had an affair with one of the managing committee member of the school, and once his wife found out she ran away from there, and is still in touch with that guy in discreet. No matter how much she tried her abusers made it certain that they are trusted, as they were too many in numbers people easily believed them, Jayati’s being orphan helped them even more.

They forced her to move out of her home, her town, her family and live on her own. She did not dared to marry because she knew that they will harm the family she gets related to. So she became strong and firm and started to live on her own. Completely ignoring all the abusive behaviour, because she knew that they will have to be content with only that, and she cant fight them because they are too filthy, too well organized, too powerful and too many in numbers.

Finally she found her answer in a shocking manner, she joined a firm run by the wife of a tycoon of the state in which she resided.

A few days passed and she was mystified because she thought that she has seen her boss before, for days, but used to shrug it off as deja vu. Then one day, the truth struck her, even though her boss was using the name of Nina, and she was married to some one else, daughter of some one else, she was most probably Lata, or her lookalike, but that was hardly possible, because not only did they had exactly same looks, they had the same voice, even the same mannerisms.

That very instant the truth dawned on her, why was she being hounded after so many years. Because she was at the wrong place in the wrong time. And her survival may cause some strong heads roll. She resigned from the job after getting another job, which she knew will be snatched away from her soon.

That evening she came back from office and was just about to relax when her phone rang, she picked up and beamed after noting the name, it was her only friend from that school, reshmi, she was the one who has been hinting her to leave the joh and has maintained the friendship after so many years, never failing to call her up atleast once a week, sharing all her problems and suggesting her way out.

She pressed the reply button, a chill of recognition ran down her spine when she felt that Reshmi’s voice was too similar to the voice of Nina’s husband Bharat Singh, the tycoon, he used to call up for Nina often.

A big industrialist, who ran multiple web based consultancy businesses starting from job to matrimony and outsourcing, and has stricken gold in ten years (just after the time Jayati left that school). Reshmi was the only person who knew her every move, and she was the one who suggested her to seek discharge from the school on pretext of psychological problems, and asked her to contact her trusted psychiatrist who will give her the false certificate.

She got answers to all her questions in an instant. How she was framed, her reputation and life ruined and monitored. She vowed to herself to be more intelligent on friends and face her cheap enemies with courage and strength.

playing with fire

Pradeep could clearly see that there was some thing wrong with the father and daughter sitting right opposite him, the girl was too subdued and the guy who introduced himself as his father was not acting like one, the way he was looking at that girl and touching her was any thing but paternal.

He kept watching them pretending as sleeping behind his dark sunglasses, and as if by God’s grace the opportunity came, the guy got down at a station to fetch water and when the train started he missed the compartment.

Pradeep expertly coaxed the girl into a talk and the story which he came to know was horrible. The girl, Priya, as she looked was the daughter of a rich industrialist studying in eighth standard, his father was busy with his life and mother was busy in her own special life, so they forgot their most important duty, bringing up the child.

They gave her own cell connection, net connection at home, and a car and chaufferat her service. She met this guy in a chat room, he showered her with affection, won her trust and taught her to cheat her parents. He asked her to introduce him to her parents as his mathematics tutor, her parents innocently walked into the trap and opened their doors for him.

He became a regular visitor of their house when they were absent, and wove his net around that innocent child, he told her she has the prettiest face in whole India and the talents of becoming a heroine, he took her photographs and slowly coaxed her into taking obscene photographs, which he told was necessary to become a heroince, he fooled her that the photos and negatives will be with her only and gave the negatives to her, keeping a copy for himself without her knowledge.

Next he told her that he knew influential people in Mumbai and they will have to buy their way for the initial break, initially he brainwashed her to squeeze out money from her parents on various pretexts and hand it over to him, which he told he was saving for the fees but finally he told they will need a lot more. He coaxed the girl to steal all the jewellery and cash she could and meet him at Howrah station. He gave the alibi that she will return lot more to her parents once she becomes a successful heroine.

Once they met in Howrah station the guy told Priya to not say anything to her parents, because if they come to know that she has stolen the jewellery and cash and have let him take those photographs they will hate her and may even kill themselves out of shame, every thing will be solved once she is a famous heroine. She can wait till then and trust him.

Pradeep felt sick, he gently coaxed the girl and squeezed out her parent’s address and phone number, when the guy appeared at the next station Pradeep was again faking sleep, he sat down beside Priya without suspecting any thing.

Pradeep got down at the next big station and called Priya’s parents, told them every thing and asked them to meet her in Mumbai station at any cost, he gave them the details of the train, compartment and seat no.

When the train rolled in Mumbai the next afternoon a well dressed respectable looking couple walked inside the compartment, the shock on Priya and her companion’s face told Pradeep the story, he got up and caught the hand of the girl, the guys beside the couple caught hold of the Culprit.

Later in the afternoon Priya’s parents were sitting in Pradeep’s apartment, Priya was sleeping in the next room. Pradeep gave them a solid piece of mind about bringing up adolescent children, which they heard mutely.

perseverance is not worthiness

Mahesh was an adopted child, he was the eighth son of his poor parents, his wealthy aunty adopted him and he shifted to Mumbai with them.

He was one of those persons who had a strong, unshaking belief that they were the most tormented soul in the universe, and rarely missed a chance to tell it. His foster parents gave him every thing, love, good education, a foundation for a wonderful career, but failed to give him a strength of character, a power to bear the ups and downs of life with dignity and courage. He used to cry like a small child at the drop of a hat.

His first love failed because the girl he loved got tired of his complaining nature and moved on after a relationship of five years. She married some one else and got settled in Mumbai. Mahesh changed his job and moved to Delhi where his biological parents lived. He rented a lavish apartment near them and maintained a superficial relationship with them. Never letting them forget that even though he has not forgiven them for giving him away to his aunty, he is generous enough to hand them out petty helps.

One day while returning from office he noted his younger brother Ramesh talking with a girl, who had a stunning similarity with his old flame Neeta, the way the girl talked, laughed and looked had a stunning similarity. Only this girl was of a darker complexion and shorter height. He watched her for a long time and then when his brother took his bus, he followed that girl to her home. He observed with a little pleasure that she entered a very poor household.

Next day he left office on the same time and when he saw Ramesh talking with that girl he deliberately showed up, forcing him to introduce her to him. He clearly understood that Ramesh and this girl Nellie were deeply in love with each other, but he thought that he will be able to win her heart. Because he was richer and better looking. Ramesh was nothing in his comparison. After all, he is the one who has always been deprived.

He cleverly started to spin his web, next day he went to his foster parents, he emotionally blackmailed them to permit him to open a branch of their business in Delhi. Next thing he did was he appointed Ramesh as its Manager.

Taking advantage of Ramesh’s gratitude he became very friendly with him and Nellie. He was extra sweet with them, showering them with expensive gifts. To his great dismay Nellie used to refuse his gifts, and kept on calling him bhaiya (brother, as would be brother in law).

He tried his best to create a distance between the lovers but could not, the more he was defeated the more his determination grew.

Finally he tried his ultimate weapon, he begged his mother to arrange his marriage to Nellie because he cant live without her. He sobbed like a heart broken teenager and created a successful impression on his mother that he will die without her. His mother who thought Nellie was Ramesh’s friend happily told Ramesh asked him to do so. Ramesh was shell shocked. He felt for a while that the sky has crashed down on his head. Because he knew backing off from Mahesh’s offer will mean losing his job, which was helping his impoverished family more than enough, accepting it will mean end of his own life.

After thinking for a little he consulted his friends, one of his friends offered him a job in middle east. He immediately left for middle east. He met Nellie and told her that he will be away for indefinite time and asked her to wait for him. He could not dare to tell any one the real reason, because he had to keep the fear of failure in mind. He told Mahesh that a friend of his has offered him a job in Middle East, he wants to give it a try. Mahesh wished him luck hiding his feelings of euphoria successfully.

With Ramesh out of scene he started to chase Nellie with all gusto, who adamantly kept on calling a brother. As Ramesh has not confirmed her place in his life to his family she could not tell Mahesh the reason but any way she kept calling him brother.

Mahesh chose to ignore that, but on his under the desk instructions and successful display of obsession to Nellie some of his employees started to call her names behind her back and indirectly in her presence. Hinting that she is flirting with a man whereas she calls him brother. He thought she will stop calling him brother, but it backfired, she started to avoid him like plague.

Mahesh got tensed and contacted her family asking for her hand, but they already knew that Nellie loved Ramesh, and knew that she was a girl of very strict principles. So they turned up their hands at him and told him clearly that they cant help him. He left the house in tears.

He started to rebuild his relation with Ramesh and poison his mind against Nellie, deliberately trying to hoodwink him that she has fallen in love with him but cant admit it because she is committed to Ramesh. He successfully created the illusion and Ramesh started to distance himself from Nellie. Their relationship became bitter and finally it was destroyed. Ramesh came back successful from middle east, married a girl of his parent’s choice and left again.
Mahesh waited for a month and contacted Nellie’s father, her family, which has guessed his games and have tried to convince Ramesh, bluntly refused his offer and told him that they will rather hand her a bottle of poison.

Her father clearly told him that their daughter is not meant for a thief and scoundrel, who doesnot minds stealing some one else’s love or ruining the reputation and life of the object of his passion, with the heinous intention of forcing her to accept him.

He then told him that if someone desecrates the idol of a goddess it doesnot becomes unholy, it may become dirty but it will be rinsed and restored back to its old glory sooner or later, but the hand that does it gets its due sooner or later.

Finally he coldly reminded him a set of golden words, perseverance is not worthiness. He may have chased her for years but that doesnot makes him worthy of her.

magic

It hurts deep when your own blood betrays you, Reva never realized that the only place she had in the live of her siblings was of a free of cost baby sitter and errand doer.

She was a very soft girl, who was moulded by her siblings according to their wishes, she was always there to help them with a smile on her lips, her siblings felt it better to keep her as a helping hand, hence snipped off all her attempts to stand on her feet in the bud.

As a result, when her mother, the last of her parents passed away she was still single, penniless. Soon her brothers and their families started to harass her to no end and her living in the same household became impossible. Because they were planning to usurp the properties left in her name. They poisoned the minds of the neighbours and relatives taking advantage of her introvert nature. Within a couple of years they made it clear that they wont let her stay in the house, physical and verbal abuse became daily story.

One day she was walking down the street when she saw a small advertisement, educated social worker needed for ashray, a small orphanage, food, shelter and small honorary amount will be provided. She thought about giving it a try and went there.

She located the address, it was a small two storied house, she went to the door, and saw inside, she saw some small autistic children inside, her heart ached with deep pain, most of them were on their fours, crawling painfully, without much control on their limb.

A woman in white saree opened the collapsible gate and asked her in, she had a very serene personality. She asked her to sit down and when to inform the mother superior. Reva sat down, within five minutes four or five children flocked around her with big grin on their faces, their faces lacked proper symmetry but their inner purity made their faces brim with joy.

Reva was very fond of children, her heart went out to these helpless children, discarded by their own parents, too weak to take care of themselves.

A few minutes later she was called in, she met the mother, her name was originally Karuna but she was called mother by every one. She was an elderly lady, past sixty. Here entire personality was serene and peaceful. One look at her face and the heart of the person filled up with deep peace and happiness.

Karuna asked her to take a seat, she sat down, Karuna gently asked her about her qualifications and back ground. After talking with her she asked Reva from when she can shift and join. Reva asked her she will like to start working immediately but asked three or four months before shifting, because she wanted to look into her heart before leaving her home, because she knew once she will be out of that door, her siblings will ensure that the doors are sealed for her.

She started to come to ashray in the morning and left the place in night, within one week she started to love those children with all her heart, her duty was to do petty office jobs and help those children in home works who were able to attend school, with sadness she noticed, ninety per cent of them were not even capable of feeding themselves, forget about other things.

She used to observe with great happiness and pain that the love of these children knew no impurity, the moment they used to see her walk in their small faces used to light up, most of them could not talk a sentence but they used to shout didi, when the time of parting used to come she never felt like leaving them and going back to home.

Even though these children were some times moody, some times violent but their unselfish affection compensated for this all. Hence a month later Reva told Karuna that she wont go back to home any more.

When she left home her siblings smirked at her and taunted her that she will be back within a week, or latest a month but she ignored their comments and moved on.

Months passed to years, she never regretted her decision, one day she got the news that some one has left a small child in the area of her home, she went there, and while she was coming back she met her child hood friend Neepa, she invited her to her home for a cup of tea, when Neepa saw the helpless baby in her arms, she asked Reva about her works in the orphanage.

After listening all she asked Reva whether or not she regrets her decision, Reva replied she has given a lot more affection to her siblings and their children, but in the return she had to leave her own home, whereas these children has cured all the wounds caused by them and filled up her life with their unselfish, pure affection.

She told Neepa that these children have a heart that is not tainted with greed, lust or selfishness. They cant be corrupted, they follow the simple rule, if some one loves you love them back thousand times more.

After a little silence Reva added that that was all she ever asked for in life. And her family was slowly convincing her that unselfish love does not exists, a dark despair which these children has spared her from.

Truth

Mrs Gupta first observed Swarna sitting alone on the bench, she stopped in front of her and asked if she can join her for a while. Swarna nodded with a sweet smile, which was her second nature but Mrs. Gupta was a little surprised this time. She knew Swarna was a very brave girl but has not expected this much mental strength either.

She was in love with a person very deeply. That person Tushar lived in Mumbai, they have met only twice, and their friendship was completely through internet and phone calls, which lasted for hours. He came down to her city and they met only twice. Swarna fell in love with him when she first saw him because she found every thing in him which she was looking for in life and spouse. But unfortunately he felt the other way round and became cold and distant after returning back to his place.

His calls stopped, and mails became infrequent, in her blind obsession she failed to notice these things. Then he picked up a quarrel and disappeared for three months.

She tried to patch up and when he responded after three months she observed that his way of talking, voice has changed a little, when she queried he told her he has changed the handset.

Their friendship resumed a little bit of old pace but he remained aloof when it came to next step. The person who was obsessed with her all of a sudden started to act like a flirt.

A year went by like that, then she came to know from a person of that town, who has accidentally joined her office and knew Tushar, she came to know from him that the guy who introduced himself was not Tushar, he was his cousin from Swarna’s town. Tushar liked Swarna a lot but he was married, and he has hidden that fact from her.

He was married to a woman with huge bank balance but evil temper, he had two children. He loved her but used to hide his friends from her because she was over possessive and made a fuss about these things, even if the friends lived in far away places like USA or England.

He asked his cousin to meet her and certified her as a good girl, he did not liked her much so he talked with Tushar and backed off. Unfortunately Tushar’s wife got the hint of the entire episode and forced his husband to hand over the sim card to her. She promptly gave it away to her family telling them the entire story. Her father gave the card to his chauffer branding swarna as a corrupt woman chasing a married man.

He impersonated as Tushar, which was not very tough for him, and incidentally his voice resembled his quite a lot, and kept on making fun of her with his friends for all these months.

Her colleague spilled the beans to Tushar and he retrieved and blocked the SIM card after apologising to Swarna, but their friendship ended then and there. His cousin also called her up and apologised for the entire episode and offered his help if needed.

Swarna smiled at Mrs. Gupta and said, “You know aunty, every coin has its flip side and flop side, its true I loved Tushar with all my heart, but I am happy that I have been brought up with strong values.”

“If I had lost my values during that meeting with his cousin I would have lost every thing. I don’t believe that if you lose one love your life is stopped there.”

“Love varies from people to people, there are people who love only once, there are people who cant love at all, and there are people who keep on loving till they meet their ideal match and settle down with that person. I think I belong to the last category.”

“As for feeling humilliated for this episode, I think Tushar’s family acted as per their taste. Tushar did only one thing wrong he would have told me that he is married. But this episode did not splattered a single drop of ink on my soul. Because I always keep my conscience clean and keep my faith on God and his justice. Do wrong and you will be soon reaping what you sowed. You cant hide three things for long time sun, moon and truth.”

Mrs. Gupta softly placed her hand on hers, and thought inside, how we can learn from some one so younger in age, if only we keep our mind open.
A gentle breeze started to blow in the park, bringing with it fragrance of flowers and ripe fruits.

Miss bittermouth

Sneha entered the office and noted Seema moving around with a sulky expression. She took in a deep breath, and thanked God that Seema never had the guts of messing with her. Most probably because Sneha knew very well the process of handling her. She has long noticed that Sneha had a way of snapping at each and every junior, or soft speaking persons whenever she had some problem in her personal life.

So many times Sneha had to choke an irresistible impulse to give her a piece of mind, but resisted herself because Seema always avoided confronting her. She did not had the guts to show her tantrums to her superiors, it was reserved for person holding similar ranking or juniors.

There was a knock on her cabin door within a few minutes of her entering, after getting her permission four of her junior staffs entered the cabin together. For a second she thought that they have come to complain against Seema and she cursed her in her mind. Because these four young girls have won her wrath ever since their joining the office, they joined under her, they were very sincere and intelligent girls. But they had a very big vice, all four were extremely pretty and immensely popular in the office. So Seema always watched them like a hawk and made it her duty to ruin their days whenever she will see any of them.

The girls were extremely frustrated but could not do any thing because their upbringing did not allowed them to make scenes, even though they knew that they were right and she was absolutely wrong. So they bunched together and used to giggle behind her back.

They beamed at Sneha and announced that they are transferred to the company’s Mumbai branch after promotion. Sneha shaked their hands and wished them luck. Then they asked her permission for a small party on the Saturday for two hours in the evening. They wanted to thank everyone individually and offer some snacks and gifts. Sneha said that she will take care that no problem arises.

The party was held, the girls managed it very well, every one received a gift with one of the girls explaining the reason behind the gift. One by one every one’s name was spelled out but Seema’s. Everyone was sure that they have no gift for her, and every one knew that she deserved that. The way she used to insult those girls even though no one protested but every one hated her for that.

Finally when all the gifts were given away two of the girls left the room, they came back with a huge gift. Then the girl announcing said, “This gift is for the person who all of us will remember for the rest of our life, our very own Miss Bitter Mouth, on our parting day we are gifting you a cauldron of honey with the hope that its sweetness will save the girls who will replace us.”

There was a stunned silence in the room, Seema sat staring at four giggling girls.

love and lust

Sujit did not knew who his parents were, they left him to die when he was only five months old, he was saved from sure death by Mr. Rastogi , who was not Mr. Rastogi then, he was Ramu aka Ramnarayan working in a chips factory.

Mr. Rastogi had some vices, very big vices but some goodness inside him compelled him to pick up that ugly child and bring him up with ample care even though he had a daughter and son of his own. He did not brought up Sujit as his own son but did not turned him into a free of cost slave either, he brought him up modestly. As a result Sujit joined his factory after graduation, Mr. Rastogi has already started to utilize his expertise in his first factory to produce chips which he used to sell in packets of big brands, of course illegally.

One night when Sujit came back Mr. Rastogi and Mrs Rastogi were waiting for him in the drawing room, they begged him to save their son Pratik from sure doom, their factory was in his name, and a police raid happened, and Pratik is in lock up. They begged before him to own the responsibilities and surrender himself, they will get him out on bail and make the arrangements for his escape.

Sujit did not had any choice, he was a very just guy, he knew where he would be if Mr. Rastogi did not saved him, he silently accompanied them, they got him bailed out within a month and made arrangements of his disappearance smoothly.

They sent him to a very small town in Uttar Pradesh, rented a home there and asked him to keep a low profile, his expenses were looked after by Pratik who used to visit him atleast once a month. He was very fond of Sujit hence was repentant that he had to suffer because of his father.

One day Sujit was sitting beside his window when he saw a taxi pull up in front of the house opposite to his, a pretty girl descended from the taxi, with her were an old lady and a young guy.

They were his new neighbours, the family was from Delhi, the brother, Raj has joined a big factory in Tejnagar. He brought along his family which consisted of his widow mother and sister Raina. There was some thing in Raina which instantly attracted Raj towards her, her face was not very beautiful but was immensely kind. Her eyes were full of gentlest dreams.

It became an obsession of Sujit to watch her whenever she was visible, he understood very soon that she was a very kind girl, gentle and sensitive. Her world was woven around her family and irrelevant things like books, music, birds, animals and other such things.

Without his knowledge Pratik also saw her and got smitten by her sweetness, his frequency of visits increased and he started to stalk the girl, the girl ignored him because she was least impressed by flashy cars, unfortunately it only increased Pratik’s obsession, he made up his mind about having her as his wife. He knew every thing about her, hence he thought that he will make her leave Tejpur and go back to Delhi, because Pratik’s family lived near the girl’s home in Delhi. Once she is snatched away from her family she will feel lonely and insecured, then he will step in as a rescuer, he will ask his parents to get him married to her.

He acted upon his wish and made the girl so miserable with the help of some of his local chums that the girl left Tejnagar and went back to Delhi. Her mother had to stay back to look after her brother, she went back to her home in Delhi, which was empty at that time. Pratik followed her, he showed her photo to his mother and told her that he wanted to marry her. His parents bluntly refused because the girl was from middle class family.

They forced Pratik to marry some one of their choice, Pratik married the girl without much fuss because she was really beautiful, but fate had some other plans, after his marriage every thing went wrong with them and his wife passed away within five years leaving two small children. Their business also took a downward plunge, Pratik was sure that it was because of that girl’s curse, because he knew that the perfect way in which he has blackwashed her image has made it impossible for her family to find a match for her and she herself has also backed off from the idea of marriage, because they have displayed the dirty side of human nature too explicitly to her.

He shared his secret with his mother and requested her to approach her for marriage. Mrs. Rastogi brushed him off, saying she will find better bride for him, and started to look for one, Pratik requested his father, he softened and asked him to appoint the girl in his office so he could see whether the girl is nice and they could mix, Pratik did the same, to his dismay he noticed that experience has made the girl really rigid and strong willed, she was not interested to give him any type of lift even now, when they were face to face, and he realized another thing that the girl has not casted a single glance at him when he was busy stalking her, because she took him as a stranger.

After seeing her he had a change of heart and consented to his mother to look for another bride, she soon found out a really pretty and cute girl who instantly won Pratik’s heart, but some thing got inside Mr. Rastogi, he said that he wont co operate in his marriage in any way until and unless he marries Raina.
And if he marries some one else he will try to compensate to Raina by giving her half the property he wanted to give Pratik.

All requests from Pratik and his mother fell on deaf ear. Mr. Rastogi has already formed a great affection for the girl, hence he made it very clear that he wont change his mind.

Pratik got desperate and started an attempt to kill that affection, he deliberately used to bother and insult that girl whenever his father was not around and when his father was around he used to transform into an angel, whereas the girl used to act rudely to him, because he was a shameless, rude stalker in his eyes. He once again requested some of his scoundrel accomplices to make that girl leave that job and they started to disturb her.

Mr. Rastogi was observing them pretty keenly without his knowledge, he understood the game his son was playing but could not do any thing much, hence he went to Sujit’s doorstep again, who has settled in Canada, he told him the entire story and requested him to save that girl from Pratik’s clutches, Sujit’s love for her re surfaced, he promised Mr. Rastogi that he will try.

Mr. Rastogi introduced them on pretext of extending his business to Canada. He became her friend very soon and within a few month their friendship intensified, because Sujit loved her with all her heart. Still he could not dare to face her because he had a serious complex about his looks. Within a few months Raina fell in love with him all the harassment she was facing in Pratik and his friends hand only intensified her trust for Sujit.

Sujit asked her if he could look for a job for her in Canada, because he knew every thing about her, he suggested her to relocate and leave those rats behind. She sent him her cv. He soon got a good job for her and she left India.

Pratik got married very soon after her leaving India, he planned to visit Sujit for honeymoon. When he reached there with his newly wed wife and kids he saw Sujit standing beside Raina and his father. The vermillion on Raina’s forehead told him the remaining story. A deep pang went through his heart when he saw the tenderness in Sujit and Raina’s glances when they looked at each other.

Komal

Shubham was married at a very young age, according to traditions his parent’s made the choice, he only saw her once formally before marriage and got married. His wife Rani had nothing in common with him, actually they were as different as two sides of a coin. Shubham was a very soft speaking, gentle person, whereas Rani was fiery tempered. Shubham was very serious and Rani was of a fleety nature. Rani was coquettish, she wanted to enjoy the life to the core, even at the cost of causing other’s pain and shubham was of a reserved nature, he believed in values and principles.

They had a baby daughter, Komal. Shubham was dragging his marital life with Rani just because of Komal. He knew she only wanted his money, he knew that she was infidel, but he knew that if they separate he might have to lose Komal.

One day Shubham came back from office and saw that Rani has left him and Komal, she only left a note that she is feeling suffocated with life, has found some one who matches her wavelength, hence she is leaving him on her free will, as her fiancé is not ready to accept Komal she has no choice but to leave her with Shubham, finally the letter said her lawyer will contact him.

Shubham was shell shocked but some how relieved, all the pain he felt was of embarrassment, even though Rani has decamped with all her belongings, he some how did not regretted that, he tried to handle his embarrassment by becoming more and more silent. Wherever he went he used to either hear murmurs or imagined that he was hearing. He was silent by nature, and this embarrassment made him even more silent and withdrawn. All his attention revolved around his work and Komal. There was only one relief, due to Rani’s outgoing nature Komal was more attached to her father and ayah than Rani, hence Shubham and her ayah easily tackled her.

A couple of months later, one day when he was coming down by lift somebody tapped him on the shoulder and he turned back to see Sikta, his college friend, who he knew was madly in love with him but he was not, and they remained friend for a long time, then he married Rani and Sikta slowly moved away.

Next few months passed like dream, with every passing day Shubham could see that Sikta had all the qualities which Rani could never have, and started to regret deep within that he had this intelligence in college, to distinguish between genuineness and coquettishness. They became inseparable friends again.

Rani has in the meantime started the divorce procedure and Shubham asked for right on Komal, Rani granted her permission. It was during these days Sikta first saw Komal, and to Shubham’s utter joy they clicked right on the first day and soon they became inseparable.

They used to meet everyday, Sikta was unmarried, she used to drop in Shubham’s home every day to be with Komal and him. Her love for him was growing again, and Shubham has deeply fallen in love with her, but could not dare to propose her thinking that she will think that he wants a mother for her daughter.

One day when Sikta came she saw that Komal was having high temperature, that night that baby clinged to her as if she was her biological mother. She spent the night there, and in the morning when Shubham asked her if he will drop her to her office and she said she has taken a week’s leave and will leave after Komal is alright.

In the night when Shubham returned Sikta asked him to sit beside Komal and went to the next room to call her family, all of a sudden Komal woke up and started to call her mother, Shubham tried his best to console her, all of a sudden Sikta entered the room and seeing her Komal instantly stopped and started to pout at her, Sikta came there and took Komal from Shubham’s arm with a sheepish smile, Shubham realized that Komal was looking for Sikta not Rani.
He went to the next room to hide his tears.

A few minutes later he felt some one touching his shoulder and turned to face Sikta.

kiss the frog

Mrs. Gupta was eagerly waiting for her friends to show up, when the finally did, she blurted out with great happiness, “She did it!!!”

Mrs. Sinha heaved a sigh of relief, “Really? Extremely lucky for her. I really wonder what would have happened if she had fallen in his paws.”

Mrs. Ghosh solemnly said, “That was out of question, Karuna would never have kissed that frog, she knew very well that he was a frog and herself a human being with ample amount of taste.”

“Its strange how shameless some people can get. Why doesnot he looks at himself and then at her, and see the difference and just look for someone of his own class.”, Mrs. Gupta commented.

“He is not shameless, he has other intentions, he has been hounding Karuna to settle his score with Amrut. Amrut refused his sister for Karuna, so he made up his mind about not letting them live in peace.” Mrs. Sinha commented.

“You think its Quasimado’s love for Miranda? It’s a dirty scheming mind of a brother and sister to frame and trap a rich guy.”, she added with sarcasm.

Amrut, Karuna and the frog aka Sohan were brought together by fate. Amrut and Karuna were friend, Amrut loved Karuna but she did not dared to love a rich man. So she did not expressed it to him.

In the emptiness created by that Amrut momentarily got interested in a scheming woman, Sohan’s sister, Ragini. Both brother and sister had other plans. They had plans of trapping rich, orphan Amrut and squeeze him dry, but they underestimated him, he realized their games very soon. And moved away from her.

Sohan taking the advantage of living near Karuna’s home started to bother her, his initial plan was to trap her so Amrut’s heart breaks and he veers toward his sister again, but he failed miserably. Because his nick name was very appropriate, he looked quite handsome, was enough rich but his manners and appearance was as repulsive as a frog.

His repulsive nature was too much reflected on his face. Everyone who came close to him squirmed from him like a person squirming away from a toad.

His way of talking, eating, acting was enough to make anyone’s stomach churn inside. Still he oozed of confidence because he thought he could have his way with his wallet and tricks under the table. He made the mistake of thinking Karuna just another girl.

Which she was not, she was from a very sophisticated family, brought up in a delicate manner, who was deeply in love with Amrut. And even if she was not in love with him she would never had accepted The Frog. Because to her love meant a union of souls and hearts, not wallet and faces.

So The Frog tried all tricks to convince others that Karuna was interested in him but failed. He initially succeeded in ruining her reputation and semi convincing Amrut, but his plans backfired and Amrut proposed to Karuna. This time she accepted him and they were immediately married.

Give and take

When Pallavi finally found out Jyotika she was standing alone on the roof humming some thing softly. Pallavi tiptoed to her and playfully startled her, they both giggled merrily and sat down on the swing side by side.

They were close friends, very fond of each other, Pallavi was light hearted, bubbly and Jyotika silent, deep. This contrast made their friendship tie even more strong, Jyotika looked up at Pallavi for cheering her up and Pallavi at Jyotika for counsel.

Pallavi asked Jyotika after babbling for a little time that if she can ask her some thing serious.

When her request was accepted she asked Jyotika if she regrets her decision of marrying Nayan.

Jyotika laughed and answered, “Not an inch!”

Pallavi sat silent for a few minutes and then asked her “Did you loved Pavan?”

Jyotika softly said, “With all my heart , but Pavan has told me directly that he did not loved me and will never be interested in me”.

Pallavi asked “Why did you gave up so easily, you might have tried a little to make him love you.”

In response to her question Jyotika broke down into peal of laughter.

She softly placed her palm on her friend’s palm and said “I have tried in all the way that a dignified woman can, who is madly in love with some one, but all my attempts were ignored with extreme kindness and politeness. Love is a game of give and take, it is worthy only when it gets its return. I used to dote on Pavan but he loved me as a friend, my heart was bleeding from his constant rejection and then Nayan came, and he fell in love with me, he started to shower me with his affection and even though I was in love with Pavan I started to realize that I will be able to love Nayan very easily because his love for me was too overwhelming and deep”.

“Hence when Nayan proposed me i married him”.

Pallavi asked her, “What will you do if Pavan comes back into your life, madly in love with you? It often happens in real life, does not it?”

Jyotika shrugged her shoulder and said “There is only one form in which Pavan can now return to my life, that is of a platonic friend”.

Then she gently said, “You know Pallavi, you cant make any one love you, but you can make yourself love any one until and unless that person is not utterly disagreeable in your eyes, when I loved Pavan and failed I was in a deep darkness, then Nayan came, he doted after me, and his affection made me forget my gloom, I slowly started to judge him whether or not he has the qualities which are essential for me in my spouse and realized he had all the things which I feel should be present in my spouse and to my greatest fortune he is madly in love with me. So I decided to change myself and give him his due affection and I succeeded. So Pavan is just a friend to me, my love for him has become platonic affection after I married Nayan. Because I believe that amorous love is only for husband, not even for lover”.

Pallavi hugged her tightly and they both sat side by side on the jhoola watching moon shine over trees and buildings.

evil python

The infamous trio were sitting on the park bench facing the lake, watching the boaters rowing their boats, sometimes alone, sometimes a loving couple, or family members and friends, all type of them enjoying the fresh air which was blowing and the cool serene water after a scorching summer day.

Mrs. Gupta first noticed Jane sitting in a bench little far away from them, she was sitting there with her laptop as usual, and a sketch book and bag. The typical artistic jhola.

Mrs Gupta muttered, “I have never seen such beautiful eyes as hers, even though you cant call them dove eye, or doe eyes but the purity that drops from them makes it so divine that one will love to sit beside her and see them.”

Mrs Sinha chimed in, “That’s why she is bothered so much in life, one look at that face and every one will know that she doesnot have venom enough to hit back when hurt.”

Mrs. Ghosh joined them a little bitterly, “In this world of crows, and vultures the gentle souls suffer immensely, after all, virtue is more persecuted by evil than it is adored by good people.”

Then she added, “In this world of shoving and pushing, and bullying no wonder that people like her are a treasure, who know how to love life and how to let others live.”

Mrs Gupta slowly commented, “How could people like Ron Shah had the audacity of thinking that she will cast a single glance at them is a wonder, they just made that poor soul miserable. Don’t they know they are as different as black is from white, as mud from chandan?”

“its good to see that she recovered from the entire thing without losing her heart or peace of mind.”, Mrs. Sinha softly commented.

Jane was unmarried, she never thought marriage as essence but was ready to settle down with a person she could love, trust and respect. She has been friends with a guy from Indore for years through internet. They have often talked on phone, exchanged mails and smses but never met face to face. Deepak often showed his affection to her but she could not reciprocate, because falling in love with some one without seeing him was impossible for her.

Then Deepak came to Kolkata on a tour and they met, she instantly fell in love with him because he had an out of the world innocence and purity in him. He returned to Indore and slowly disappeared in the background. She tried a lot to revive that friendship but could not. It subsided into casual friendship.

Then suddenly a new friend popped up, Mahesh, he has been her friends ever since Deepak became her friend but maintained a low profile, he used to exchange only mails, all of a sudden, he became over friendly, but she maintained a distance because he was married. He was also from the same community which made Deepak her friend.

All the while she was friends with Deepak who used to act in a strange manner, as if he was hell bent to ruin even the friendship they had, all of a sudden he became very abusive, she consoled herself by thinking that he has stopped liking her after seeing her.

Then slowly things were blasted because Deepak came to visit her again, the person who has been faking as Deepak was not actually Deepak, he was Ron, one of her colleagues from Indore, a guy who has stalked her to the limit of her disgust, she utterly despised him because there was nothing in him which she could toler, forget about like, who in return was obsessed with her and snooped on her without her knowledge. He used to visit Jane’s office more than once a month and was quite popular among some of her colleagues. What Jane did not knew was he used to work in Deepak’s office as a part timer. Two hours each day.

He easily discovered about Deepak, who got married after Ron convinced her that Jane is flirt. Ron has often eaves dropped her conversation with him, and from the other end too and used it in impersonating him, and installed some spyware in her office p.c. which used to send a copy of her mails to his computer, so he could keep a track of her mails and could not get caught.

He was simply settling his scores by hitting her impersonating as her loved one. Every time she refused her as Ron he used to immediately insult her faking as Deepak. With ruthlessness and glee.

It was Ron who impersonated as Mahesh and befriended her, to tarnish her image in Deepak’s eyes. He used to disconnect the phone after talking with her for a while and used to talk sweet nothings into the dead phone, so that Deepak becomes confident that she was having an affair with him and walks away from her, so he could have his way. But when she rudely refused him with utter hatred and disgust he showed his real nature and character.

Mrs. Gupta added, “If only that dirty scoundrel Ron had seen his own face in mirror, and seen Deepak’s he would have known why a person who likes Deepak cant like him, forget about loving him.

His face, behaviour is so reflective of his dirty character that people like us will shrink back from him with hatred, forget about spiritual women like Jane. And he did ultimately showed his real face and proved that she was right in loathing her. The level to which he went he should be shot like a mad dog.”

Mrs. Sinha added, “What a repulsive creature, its really ridiculous that a filthy beast like him could dream about a girl like her. These people are tarnish to humanity, trust and love. They try to show off their dirty obsession as love, where as it is lust in its crudest form, even the thought of him and his ways makes me want to puke.“

titli

The very first person Prerna noticed after joining her new office was Shubhro. The more see saw him the more she was impressed with him, she was a small town girl, who has shifted her base to Calcutta for career. Most of the colleagues of her new office used to brow beat her, they had a very tensed and competitive work environment, every one was ready for the run, not minding to trample down the person coming in way. Prerna being the fresher, often used to be that one in the way. She used to find this environment very hurting and depressing, that’s when she started to notice Shubhro, who was quite unlike every one around him, he knew what he wanted, but he knew another thing, that it is not necessary to hurt any one to get what one wants. He always kept to himself, seldom smiled, but whenever he talked it used to soothe the person he was talking to, whereas it also gave a clear message that it was wise not to mess with him. His softness was his greatest strength.

Prerna slowly found a group of friends who were not so go-getter and had some time for warmth and relaions. During one of their discussion Prerna asked about Shubhro and came to know that he has been married for a brief period, but his wife passed away, leaving behind a autistic daughter. Shubhro used to die for his wife and dotes after his daughter, Titli. After hearing it her heart went out for him, and her respect for him grew, she knew the true reason for his kind nature, as he has known pain from so close, he was not interested to hurting others, but he did not invited pains inflicted to him either.

They lived close to each other, one day while she was taking a stroll in the nearby park, she saw Shubhro sitting on a bench, and beside him was a small figure, she guessed who it was and went towards them with a smile. Shubhro responded back with a warm smile, and Prerna instantly switched her attention to the little one, she was crazy about children, and after shifting to the hostel, she was missing those she has left at her home. She saw a very innocent face, filled with divine purity. She smiled at Titli and she grinned back, mumbling some thing in her own special language.

She asked Shubhro if she can share the bench with them for some time, if she is not intruding and he laughed. Within half an our Prerna was having the time of her life with Titli and Shubhro was watching them with amusement.

Soon those meetings became regular, whenever Prerna used to see Shubhro walking into the park she used to come down to join them, slowly and steadily Titli filled up her life with her completely unselfish and devoted love. Her love was like an overflowing river knowing no bound, the moment she used to see Prerna enter the park, she used to run at her with her faltering steps and hug her so hard that she had to use both of her hands to release herself and hug her. She became so attached with her that she started to visit his home every day, where he used to live with his elderly mother and Titli. Soon the four of them became unseparable.

One year later every one in office was happy to know that Prerna and Shubhro are getting married, and after marriage Prerna will be working from home. When some overcurious friends asked Prerna that will she be able to love Titli after she gives birth to her own child, she just laughed and said that it was Titli who taught her to love, and no one forgets her elder daughter after another son or daughter is born.

standing tall

Agni was a silent observer, she used to travel for hours in train to reach Kolkata every day to work, her policy was to get a seat near the window and spend the entire journey observing the beauty of nature.

It was very tough for any one to engage her for gossips or petty talks, she preferred polite silence, most probably this nature of her attracted tormented people towards her, she used to observe with surprise the way complete strangers used to open up to her.

One day she was sitting in her seat when she observed a woman of extra ordinary beauty and charm occupying the seat opposite to her, the lady struck up an conversation with her and Agni talked with her in her aloof way.

The next day the lady was already there when Agni came to her typical seat, the lady smiled at her and she smiled back.

In accordance to her previous experiences, the lady started to share her experience with Agni within a month, her name was Radha, she married some one her parents chose for her, but everything went nightmarishly wrong, her husband got bored of her within a few years, even though every thing was picture perfect. Radha’s husband was a gazetted officer, she was beautiful, charming and a wonderful singer and their only son aditya was an angel.

But Radha’s husband Prakash was forever complaining, he used to mentally torture her and whenever she protested he used to call her psychiatric patient and used to bully her to take medicines for same, slowly it became her habit and before she realized she became one and her husband walked out on her.

She returned to her home with her son, her mother was practical she arranged for her separate accommodation, Radha had a huge inheritance from her father, which took care of her financial needs, her mother passed away a few years later.

Radha found a friend and mentor in her brother’s childhood friend Dibyendu. Her brother has passed away in youth but his friend kept in touch with them. He was 14 or 15 years older than Radha, director of an events management company, he devoted himself to settle Radha as a singer. Radha’s son Aditya was studying engineering in Mumbai and had won an scholarship for Post graduation in USA.

After Radha’s mother passed away and Aditya went to Mumbai she and Dibyendu started to mix a lot because they both admired each other, but Dibyendu’s wife did not liked it, she was a small town girl, whose parents did not thought it necessary to educate her properly, hence she had to bid good bye to studies and get married after tenth standard. Anu knew the wide gap between her and her husband’s cultural mindset, so, the moment she set her eyes on Radha she became scared to death. Hence Dibyendu requested Radha to keep their meetings a secret. Which Radha did not objected to because she wanted his help desperately.

But after a couple of years Dibyendu started to show the symptoms of falling in love, and Radha’s lonely heart was also longing for a companion. But there was only one obstacle, Radha was dead against extra martial relations and Dibyendu was clear about one thing, he wont divorce Anu. But he kept on insisting Radha for a relationship without Anu’s knowledge.

After saying this far, Radha turned for Agni and said that lately she is again feeling a deep urge to start taking those medicines which the doctors have strictly prohibited her from taking.

Agni said after thinking a little, that if she was Radha she would have strictly snubbed any such hints from Dibyendu. Because all it will bring in her life was disgrace and pain. What will be her place in her own eyes and the eyes of her son and the rest of the society?

She said that if she was Radha she would have got her son married and after that would have married some one who will give her the position of his legal wife. The world is too big, there are millions of lonely people looking for suitable life partner, so, if she looks around she sure will find some one who will accept her with her due respect.

She should stop depending on Dibyendu, and become more dependent on herself. She has a lot of assets in herself, which she can focus on, her financial security, looks, talents and so on, hence, she should stop tormenting her self for a marriage that has gone wrong long ago and start to live confidently.

If she stops thinking herself as vulnerable every thing will turn out to be fine, she is an easy prey because she thinks herself pitiable. The day she will start to stand tall she will be able to fight all the pain and frustration. And before she realizes life will start to sing according to her tunes.

A few months have passed, Agni was sitting in the same seat, casually looking out of window when someone touched her shoulder, she turned and saw Radha. There was vermillion on her forehead indicating her marriage and smile on her lips saying it was happy.

She sat down beside her and started to chat incessantly, the gist which Agni could get from her chattering was she has married someone from her music circle, someone who has proposed her more than once, she married him two months ago after getting Aditya’s consent.

silent calls

Kanika was sitting in the room, reading a book and enjoying the rain fall outside, all of a sudden she heard the telephone ringing. She ran to the phone to pick it up, but there was no sound on the other side, she just waited for a few seconds and said hello, but no reply came from the other side. She repeated it for three or four times then banged the receiver on the cradle. It was almost a daily routine. She did not had any idea who was playing this prank but it happened only when she was alone in home, so high chances were that it was some one from neighbourhood, who was so well known to her that she will instantly recognize his or her voice. Some times she used to feel frighten. But no harm has come to her till date.

They have shifted to this locality a few months ago, she was very busy with her new office, so were her mom and dad.

She went to the window and saw Jayanta sitting on his typical bench, looking at her window. She could feel the blood raising to her face. Even though she was behind the curtain she could feel his gaze.

He was a very good looking guy, one of those people who stand out in a crowd. She smiled when she thought how they met, she was running for her office and bumped into someone in the stair and before she could check herself she sent him almost flying for a few steps, luckily they both grabbed rails. He only smiled at her profuse shower of apologies and nodded.

The next morning she was again running down the stairs all of a sudden she blushed, she saw the same guy was sitting outside their entrance, he was looking at her with full attention and a slight smile on his lips. She just lowered her gaze and went her way.

It became a routine, every day she saw him sitting there silently but always looking at her. Slowly it started to happen when she was returning, no matter how late she was. He had very beautiful eyes. But that was all, he never tried to reach out or talk to her. He just sat there and looked at her.

One day when she came back it was pouring down, even the dogs and cats have taken shelter, she saw the bench empty and a deep pang formed in her heart. She reached her entrance and her heart jumped, he was standing there casually, but the moment their eyes met he smiled a little and left.

The next day she deliberately went down a little earlier, he was already in his seat. She went straight to him, and stood in front of her, her face was hot, she asked him if he knew some good place from where she can get good books. He did not replied, just stared at her.

Just when she was about to leave, she heard some half muted voice from him, he gestured her to wait, and made a sign to ask if she has a pen and paper, when she handed it out to him, he wrote down the name of few book stores with address and his name Jayanta. She smiled, introduced herself and thanked him.

When she was on her way to office Kanika slowly understood the source of those blank calls, and how they always came when her parents were not at home. Because some one wanted to hear her voice.

This day, when she was returning she saw Jayanta waiting for her, with a small bouquet. She smiled and invited him to her home.

Royal marriage

King of simians has fixed the marriage of his daughter with the son of king of Jackals. But as some times happens, the prince saw his fiancé and did not liked her an inch, he ran away from his palace announcing he will not marry her. He will marry some one he likes, not some one his parents select and he does not likes.

He went to an distant corner of the country and fell in love with a girl there, that girl was a very ordinary girl but as hearts some times behave strangely, the prince of jackals fell in love with her deeply. That girl used to see him moving around but never gave him any attention, because she had her own priorities and principles.

The prince started to pine after her and in the pining fell sick, he fell very sick and the news went to his father, he came rushing to take his son home. He went back home with him after promising that he will bring the girl of his choice as daughter in law.

Once in his palace he informed the king of simians about his son’s sickly choice and requested him to handle the matter. The king promptly came to the rescue of his would be relative. He appointed an loyal army of his kingdom to harass the girl.

Those simians did their duty right, they harassed that girl to no end, wherever she went they were sure to follow her, spy on her and harass her, they bribed people near her to harass her and while the prince was recovering that girl was going through hell, slowly she lost her mental peace, happiness and her nature became very suspicious and bitter. Whenever she used to meet some one she used to think that he or she must be a spy of the simian kings.

The king of jackals invited the simian princess and the girl of his son’s choice to the palace together after his son recovered. The contrast was too big and the prince thought that he must have been delirious to reject the simian princess and chose this girl.

So the girl went back to her village and the simian princess and jackal prince married and lived happily ever after.
