Mother

Laxmi and Narayan were almost as complete as the mythological figures. In the long twenty years of their marriage they have not quarreled seriously for once. There was only one small spec which has stopped their union from being called blessed, Narayan had some physical problem so he could not give Laxmi a child. Laxmi after knowing her husband has known that having a spouse like him was enough, so she showered all forms of her affection on him, without longing for a child.

Narayan was just about to start his taxi, when all of a sudden he heard a strange noise, like the sound of a kitten and to his dismay noticed that he has left one of the back windows open. He went to the backseat and opened the door, in place of a kitten he saw a small baby wrapped in a towel lying there. He gently picked her up and took her to Laxmi. Laxmi held her to her bossom.

After that Narayan went to the local police station, the O.C. of that Police Station was a very kind person, he helped them to get that child Esha adopted. After that days started to flow like dream, Esha was the apple of her parents eyes, around her they wove a wonderful world of parental happiness. She grew up and started to work as a teacher in a government school.

One day while she was returning home she saw a car applied its brake after crossing her, as she was passing by an elderly person and lady came out of the car and approached her, they were extremely rich, that was quite clear from the car and their appearance.

The lady asked her politely if she can ask her some questions, when Esha consented she asked her name and her parents name and their address. Esha did not minded giving them the same so she gave them.

The next day when she returned home she saw that her parents were sitting in the drawing room in a gloomy mood. When she asked them what has happened they told them that the couple she met yesterday are her biological parents.

They have left her in the taxi because they wanted a boy, and when they came to know that Esha is girl, it was too late for abortion. Hence, after leaving Esha there they have tried for more than five years to get the son they wanted. That son grew up to become a handsome man, he went abroad at a very young age and got settled there, the parents decided to not to follow him, so they stayed back.

They have recently bought a home in this locality, have often seen Esha, they felt a strange attraction towards her, so they approached her to confirm their hopes. Now they were requesting Narayan and Laxmi to give Esha back to them because they will be able to make her far more happy than Narayan and Laxmi can, with their limited means.

After telling the story they looked at Esha with scared eyes, she just stifled an yawn and wrapped her arms around Laxmi’s neck and asked her whether she has prepared the fruit custard she has asked for last night.
